Did you know that the Bible contains one of the most beautiful love songs ever written? In the Song of Songs, a young man and woman tell of their love for each other in moving and intimate terms.
Amidst all these passionate interchanges, one phrase is constantly repeated: “Promise me . . . not to awaken love until the time is right” (Song of Songs 2:7, NLT). Why the sudden splash of cold water?
Despite what the culture says, love is not an act or an emotion; love is a commitment. Love is two people saying, “Come what may, I will be here for you.” Love is all about the other person, which is why, outside of commitment, love is really just lust.
Our culture is afraid of commitment and so many never experience the love described in Song of Songs. Take time with your Bible to learn what real love is.
